I know that technology plays a major role in today's society. As I looked the videos about the Web 2.0, I found it interesting that there was no one speaking but the video was designed in such a way to grasp my attention. I loved reading the interesting facts about how the use of technology has changed since it was just recently introduced to the world less than 20 years ago and over this time technological use in increase dramatically. Twenty years about people were nervous about using the internet but now people use technology twice as much as hardware such as books, encyclopedia, Cds, tape players, house phones, TV.. People do not mail letters any more. We downloads TV shows and listen to them on iPods, we email and text. The most interesting fact I saw was they by the time this generation turns 21, they will have sent roughly 250,000 text messages. The internet and other technology had changed the way people research, think and learn.
As teachers, we need to continue to engage ourselves in technology so that we can keep in touch with our students. I am very interested in learning about WebQuests, Blogs, and Wikis. I am interested in learning how to effectively incorporate them into my classroom. I am interested in learning about the process in creating designs that will be eye appealing and keep the interest of my users and viewers. I am looking forward learning what this semester has to offer.
You brought out an interesting point about the videos, and how they kept your attention. The message was very clear. As educators we need to use that mesmerizing techniques and technologies in our instruction to make curriculum connections.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a prediction on how long it will take your school system to actually use the many web 2.0 tools out there for classroom instruction at your grade level?
I love your blog, it is very friendly!
Those Web 2.0 videos were so interesting, I hooked up our laptop to the TV and played them for my husband (and whatever kid happened to be in the living room at the time). :) He switched his major to computer science back in 96, so our household was always as "techie" as it could be since then. I think his dad, a real estate appraiser, had one of the first digital cameras for his business. It held, like, 20 pictures max! And then with the texting... I can remember when I first started really using texting, and now my 15 year old sends approx. 40,000 texts a month! It is amazing how far technology has come in her lifetime... can you IMAGINE what it'll be like in 15 more years? I am glad we are going through with this training now, to get "caught up" possibly on all (or most) things tech in education, so that it'll be easy to stay on top of all of the change. I think one area that will change as frequently as everything else does is design. Not the principles in our text, of course.. but the software used to design web applications. My brain hurts and is excited at the same time, just thinking about it all! :)
ReplyDeleteI am excited about reading your progress of incorporating web tools and design, etc. into your classroom. Even though I am not currently teaching, my heart is in first grade, and I think it is more challenging to incorporate some internet tools with younger students. Although they are little sponges and want to learn it all and are so enthusiastic!
